Unveiling the Power of Consumer Activism: A Step-by-Step Guide to Effectively Boycotting

In our modern world, the entertainment industry is a major influence on cultural norms and societal values. As consumers, we have a unique opportunity to shape this landscape through our choices. When a company mistreats its artists and employees or neglects its fans, it becomes crucial for us to speak up. This guide offers practical steps to effectively boycott unethical organizations, amplify your voice, and inspire others to join the cause.

What is a Boycott?

A boycott is when people stop buying, using, or supporting a company, product, or service to protest against its actions or policies. It's a way to pressure change by hitting where it hurts—their profits and public image.

Consistency and collective action make a boycott powerful. Thinking about joining the boycott but not sure where to start? Keep reading for a detailed guide on how to effectively boycott Ninestar Studios—step by step. Every action counts, and together, our collective choices can make a real impact.

no engagement

To make a boycott effective, we must stop all engagement—every click, view, and purchase sends a message. Silence is power.

spread the word

Spreading awareness about the boycott is crucial—real change happens when more people know, care, and take action together.

stay up to date

Staying updated on social media keeps the boycott strong and focused—real-time info helps us act together and make a bigger impact.

Decline to Purchase Promoted Content

Consumer spending significantly affects how companies view success. By refusing to buy promotional content, we challenge organizations to rethink their business practices. Before making any purchase, reflect on how it aligns with your values and whether it indirectly supports the very actions that led to the boycott. This financial stand has been successfully adopted by various movements.

Refusing to purchase promoted content from a company as a form of boycotting is important because it's a direct way to withhold financial support, send a message, and influence corporate behavior. Here's why it matters:

  • Companies thrive on revenue, and promoted content—ads, sponsored posts, influencer partnerships—is a major way they drive sales and boost visibility. When people collectively refuse to engage with or buy through that content, it hits their bottom line.

  • If enough people ignore or avoid a company's ads or sponsored content, the value of that advertising drops. Platforms and influencers might reconsider working with a brand that’s become toxic to their audience, creating broader pressure from all sides.

  • Modern consumers expect brands to be responsible—not just in the products they sell, but in their treatment of workers, those who support them, and public stances. Boycotting promoted content puts the responsibility back on the company to do better if they want consumer attention.

In short: Money talks. And in a media-saturated world, where companies live or die by clicks and conversions, not clicking, not engaging, and not buying through their ads can be just as powerful as speaking out loud.

Emphasizing the Impact of Consumer Activism

Learning how to effectively boycott equips us to demand accountability from companies that neglect ethical treatment. Stay informed, disengage from harmful practices, and motivate others to join the movement. By harnessing the power of our collective choices, we can drive real change and foster a respectful and equitable entertainment landscape. After all, together we are stronger, and together we can ensure that the voices of Faye, Yoko, their fans, and any future creatives are respected and valued.

Spread the Word

Your voice can influence many people, especially in a connected world. Use your social media accounts to inform others about the boycott's purpose. Your activism goes beyond personal action—reach out to friends, family, and your network to educate them about the boycott. Share the reasons behind your actions, the importance of collective advocacy, and how small changes can lead to real impact. Invite your circle to engage with the same practices you have adopted, from unfollowing the company to speaking out.

Create engaging posts that explain the company's missteps and why you are participating in the boycott. Sharing authentic experiences can draw in friends and followers, inspiring them to join the movement. One of the easiest things to hinder progress is the spread of misinformation. That is why this site was created — to help spread the word, the truth, about this boycott and why it matters. Copy and save the link to this site to share with those uninformed, curious, or simply willing to listen.

How to Support Yoko

As a fandom, we've come together to boycott the company that the actress we love and support is currently a part of—not out of spite, but out of principle. This decision hasn't been easy. We’re deeply aware of the conflict we face: standing against a company that has caused harm to both its audience and the very talent it profits from, while still wanting to uplift and support the actress who’s brought so much meaning to our lives.

We see what this company is doing—and we won’t stay silent about it. As fans, we are boycotting this company because of the harm it has caused to its audience, its workers, and even to the very people it claims to celebrate. And now, instead of addressing the valid concerns raised, they’ve chosen to use Yoko—the one we’ve always stood by—as a shield.

They’re making her the face of the company, not to honor her, but to protect themselves. They’re hoping that our love for her will silence our voices and stop this movement. That by placing her front and center, we’ll feel guilty for pushing back. But we see through it.

We will not be manipulated.

This tactic only highlights the company's refusal to take responsibility. We know she may not have full control in this situation—and we will never blame her for being caught in the middle. Our support for her has not wavered. But using her image, her voice, and her connection to us as a tool to deflect criticism is exploitative and transparent.

We stand by our values. We stand by the truth. And we stand by her—not the company using her.

We know that boycotts can carry collateral impact. But we believe in holding powerful institutions accountable, especially when they perpetuate harm, exploit workers, and silence voices. Our stance is not against her—it’s against the system that has failed both her and us.

Unfortunately that means that we can no longer support her work under the company. This genuinely pains us as we want nothing more than to celebrate her hard work and effort, but our stance has to be final. We will continue to support her in the ways we can—by amplifying her independent work, celebrating her talent with our words, and making sure she knows our love for her remains unchanged. Our hope is that this boycott becomes a call for change, not just for this company, but for the industry as a whole.

This is about choosing justice, even when it’s complicated—and doing so with love, respect, and care for the people caught in the middle.

An excerpt from the breakdown of the press conference which you can read here

"On the contrary, this boycott is a direct expression of that love. It’s a stand against a system that continuously exploits her talent, image, and name for gain—without truly supporting her or respecting her voice.

Fans have not turned their backs on Yoko — they have made it clear that their issue is with the company, not her. They continue to celebrate her, advocate for her, and express unwavering admiration. To question that love and condemn fans for speaking out is not only disrespectful, it’s an attempt to guilt and silence people who care deeply and are asking for better — for her and for themselves. True fans want to see her thrive — just not at the cost of her dignity, peace, or voice.

True support includes the courage to demand accountability. It’s not the fans who are holding her back — it’s the very system trying to pit her against the people who’ve stood by her the most. By refusing to support a company that mishandles her career and uses her without prioritizing her well-being or benefit, fans are sending a clear message: real support means accountability. Real love means fighting for someone, even when it’s uncomfortable."

Celebrate Collective Success

If your efforts lead to positive changes, it is vital to celebrate! Acknowledge how consumer activism makes a difference, whether in the company’s failures or the personal stories shared along the way.

Remember, campaigns can have various phases. Initial challenges eventually lead to positive outcomes that validate your commitment to ethical standards in entertainment. We’ve accomplished a bunch already: their followers and engagement have significantly gone down, various members of the industry have denounced them by cutting working ties with them, and more. We are making a change and will continue to do so if we remain committed to the cause. Do not waver and press forward, victory is ours to claim!

Assess the Company’s Response

Pay attention to how the company responds to the boycott. Do they acknowledge the issues, release statements, or take actionable steps towards improvement?

The success of a boycott often depends on the company's willingness to listen. So far, the company has made it clear that they don’t ever intend on taking accountability for their actions nor apologize for the damages they have caused. They seem to only want to wash their hands of the dirt they produced by lying and  blaming the people who were once loyal to them. We must not let them silence us, we must remain a constant reminder of everything they’ve done wrong, persistently spreading the truth.

Stay Consistent and Committed

A successful boycott needs patience, consistency, and commitment. Some days may feel like your efforts are going unnoticed, but remember that every action matters.

Regularly evaluate the impact of your boycott and adjust your strategies as needed. This fight isn’t black and white, there are a lot of elements to be considered. It is also not a one-sided fight, we are up against a company determined to ignore, silence, and erase all traces of their misdeeds. As they act, we must react—but we must ensure that all of our actions benefit our cause. Engage with fellow fans and keep up with the company's actions—this dedication will help maintain momentum.

Understanding the Reasons for the Boycott

Before starting a boycott, it is essential to identify the reasons behind your decision. Educate yourself on the specific actions taken by the company that led to your frustration. Understanding these issues provides a stronger foundation for your stance and helps communicate your reasons to others.

You’re in the perfect place to educate yourself. Take a trip through the site and you’ll find detailed explanations of how this all began, the company’s actions, and hear directly from fans. (Click here to learn more)

Engage with Fan Accounts & Use Hashtags Effectively

Fan accounts on platforms like X.com (formerly Twitter) can be valuable during a boycott. They often provide updates, relevant news, and share voices from those affected by the company's actions.

In today's social media landscape, hashtags can significantly amplify messages. Since this boycott began, the fandom has been creating specific hashtags and keywords on X to trend in order to spread the word.

Join us and encourage others to use these hashtags as well. This practice helps track engagement and increases awareness of our cause. It also brings us together and inspires us to continue fighting. Check this link: FayeYokoInterFans for official fan bases to follow on X and stay tuned for the announcements of our next trends.

Follow the dedicated accounts using the trending hashtags to stay informed about developments related to our cause. Joining these communities connects you with others who share the commitment to driving change.

Create Public Awareness

Write articles, produce videos, or host discussions about the company and its actions. Collaborate with creators and activists to generate content that denounces unethical practices in entertainment. Fostering dialogue around these issues increases public awareness. The more people understand the situation, the larger the movement can grow.

We’re not just choosing to boycott this company—we’re choosing to speak up. We encourage everyone to share the reasons behind this boycott and make it known to other businesses, influencers, and partners considering working with them. Companies need to understand that harmful practices, unethical behavior, or silence in the face of injustice have real consequences.

Let’s make it clear: working with them means standing with those choices. We call on others to reconsider their associations and stand with us in demanding accountability. Spread the word. Let your voice—and your spending power—be part of the change.

We must remain responsible in our effort to spread the word. Afterall, we are a reflection of the very artists we are defending. Keep our fight focused. We’re not here to cause chaos—we boycott with purpose and respect. Minimize engagement with companies who post about working with them but also inform them professionally why we will not be supporting any collaborations.

Hit Them Where it Hurts: YouTube

Ninestar uploads all of their content to Youtube, their shows, music, etc. This is a major source of income for them. Cutting this avenue off by not watching any of their content is an extremely effective way to boycott. Simply unsubscribing from them will have a lasting effect as well:

  • YouTube tracks subscriber count as a key performance indicator. A drop in subscribers sends a visible signal—not just to the company, but to potential investors, partners, and advertisers—that public support is shrinking.

  • Fewer subscribers usually means fewer views, clicks, and interactions. That can result in: Lower ad revenue, less reach in the algorithm, and a weaker presence in recommended feeds. When a company's videos underperform, it hits their wallet—and their visibility.

  • A declining subscriber base can’t be easily hidden. It raises questions in the industry and online communities. People start to ask: Why are they losing fans? That can amplify the boycott’s message far beyond the immediate audience.

  • When fans see others unsubscribing and explaining why, it creates momentum. One person becomes ten. Ten becomes thousands. It helps build a larger movement.

So yeah, it’s just a click. But when enough people do it for the right reasons, that small act becomes part of something much louder.

An amazing team of fans have been collecting and analyzing data from their YouTube channel and found a ton of solid evidence proving that they have been inflating their views and subscribers. This is a clear violation of YouTube’s policies, worthy of being reported. Read here to get a clear breakdown of the evidence collected, and how you can use it to effectively report the channel.

Unfollow on All Social Media Platforms

Once you've committed to disengagement, the next step is to unfollow the company on all social media platforms. Whether it's Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or X, your decision to unfollow sends a clear signal of discontent.

While unfollowing may seem small, it contributes to a collective impact. If just one thousand fans decide to take this step, it represents an undeniable wave of dissatisfaction. In the first ____ days since the boycott began, they’ve seen a significant drop in followers across all of their social media platforms — over 40k followers were lost on X and over 60k on Instagram. But it doesn’t have to end there, encourage your friends and family to join in—every extra unfollow matters.

Stop Engagement with the Company

The first substantial step in a successful boycott is to stop all engagement with the company. This includes avoiding their content, not attending events, and refraining from interacting with their social media profiles.

In a digital age, companies carefully monitor their engagement metrics. If a film studio sees significant drops in likes and shares of their promotional content, it sends a strong message that consumers disapprove of their recent actions. Even negative engagement counts as engagement. Not every company is going to carefully examine what is being said in the comments, so even if there are 500 negative comments, some will only see the number 500 and take it as a sign that they are able to garner engagement.

No engagement will hinder their ability to obtain sponsorships and brand deals. If they can’t prove that they can properly promote a brand or product through their engagement, we can effectively cut off another income avenue.
